Today I’m going to tell you about my top 5 treatments to transform your brows in 2020! Brows are big news – they can really help to enhance your facial features and frame your beautiful eyes. Get the wrong shape, and they can make your face look sad or even angry. Get the right shape, and it’s like an instant facelift – but without the need for the knife!
I often get asked about complimentary treatments that can be used alongside each other to create a gorgeous finish. So, here are my current favourites.
Microblading & Permanent Makeup
Of course, I have to mention microblading and permanent makeup first! Two of my favourite treatments for results that last. Microblading is where a handheld tool is used to create small channels in the skin which represent natural hair strokes. The channels are filled with specialist cosmetic pigments (I use my very own award-winning K.B Pro pigments) that leave the illusion of hair strokes. Microblading is a fantastic treatment for those who love natural-looking brows.
Permanent makeup (PMU) brows are created with a specialist cosmetic tattoo machine. As with microblading, small, natural-looking hair strokes are created that look ultra-realistic.
When people think about permanent makeup, they often think that they only need one treatment to last a lifetime – after all ‘permanent’ is within the name. However, this is not strictly true as permanent makeup does fade over time. Instead of a ‘no-maintenance’ treatment, we call it a ‘low maintenance’ treatment. You’ll need to attend a second appointment after your initial appointment, and may opt to attend the clinic every six months or so for a Colour Boost appointment where your brow pigment will be refreshed. The time you’ll need between appointments varies between each person and takes into account your skin type, and how you take care of your permanent makeup.
HD Brows has become a real household name over the last few years – especially amongst beauty lovers! I founded HD brows back in 2008 to give clients and beauty therapists alike an amazing in-salon treatment that would create amazing highly defined brows.
The treatment consists of:
- A thorough consultation to define your brow goals
- The tinting of your brows
- Tweezing and finishing
- Aftercare advice
Each treatment is completely bespoke and tailored just for you. Perhaps you struggle to grow your brows (no problem! Try the HD Brows Brow Maximiser!) or simply love that polished and preened look. Whatever your goal, your local HD Stylist can help you reach it.
Henna Brows is a form of brow tinting. The thing that sets it apart from normal tinting is that the Henna actually dyes the skin as well as the brow hairs.
Henna was initially hailed as a fantastic alternative for people who suffer with allergic reactions from Para-phenylenediamin (PPD) – an ingredient commonly used in hair and brow dyes. Henna is seen as a natural alternative, although some Henna does contain PPD along with other ingredients than can cause allergic reactions. It’s important to take a patch test, just as you would before any tinting treatment.
The results of Henna Brows are fuller-looking brows that can last around 2 – 4 weeks. However, the results will vary in every individual. Those with drier skin types will find that their Henna Brows tend to last a little longer.
Brow lamination is, essentially, an eyebrow perming treatment. It involves the correction of the brow shape by setting the hairs into place using a chemical solution.
Firstly, a cream is applied to the brows that breaks down bonds in the hairs – this allows them to be manipulated into a new position. A second cream that rebuilds the bonds and sets them in their new position is then applied.
Brow lamination is perfect for taming unruly brows, and will shape even the most downward hairs. Whether you want a perfectly groomed look, or fluffy, full brows, brow lamination can give you your perfect shape for up to six weeks.
I created BrowSculpt especially for HD Brows which is my own take on brow lamination. It combines the famous HD Brows treatment with brow lamination for the ultimate in brow perfection.
BrowSculpt will be available all across the UK soon. Keep an eye on the HD Brows Salon Finder to find your nearest salon offering BrowSculpt here.
Threading is a popular method of hair removal. It originated in Iran, India, Central Asia and China. It’s commonly used alongside tinting treatments and is also a part of the HD Brows treatment.
Threading is really fascinating to watch! The brow tech uses thread to carefully roll over the skin removing hairs as they go. Unlike tweezing, threading can actually remove rows of hair at one time. Many people opt for threading as it’s a chemical-free way to get rid of unwanted hair around the brows as well as reportedly being less painful than tweezing.
I hope you enjoyed today’s blog post – I’d love to hear what your favourite brow treatment is and why.
