5 ways to support local beauty businesses during COVID-19

Many businesses in the beauty industry are feeling the pinch right now due to the enforced temporary closures ordered by the government. Overnight, many beauty professionals have lost their primary source of income due to COVID-19, and have been thrown into a very uncertain world. Today, I wanted to share a post with you on a few things you can do as a client to support local beauty businesses to help them not only survive, but thrive through the pandemic.

1. Buy a gift voucher

Gift vouchers are an amazing way to support your local beauty businesses. It’s a quick way for salons to earn money whilst the lockdown is in place, and will help to pay those vital bills to keep the salon going, and feed a family until it’s safe to re-open. Why not purchase a few vouchers as gifts for your best friends so you can all treat yourselves to a beauty refresh once the lockdown is lifted?

2. Spread the word on social media

Social media is one of the best marketing tools we have at our fingertips. What’s more, it’s free! It’s so easy to recommend our favourite salons or beauty businesses to our friends in a few quick clicks. And before we know it, our friends have shared it with their social circle, who go on to share it with theirs too. Perhaps you could invite your friends to ‘like’ the page of your favourite businesses? A little social media engagement goes a long way!

3. Re-arrange instead of cancelling

Wherever possible, try to re-arrange your appointment rather than cancelling. It’s amazing peace of mind to know that even a little money will be coming in later on in the year to your salon owner, and will really help.

4. Book in advance and leave a deposit

If you’re looking to book an appointment in advance, why not leave a small deposit to secure your booking? Many salons are now offering a deposit scheme to allow clients first pick over the first batch of appointments when they can re-open. It’s a win-win – your favourite salon gets a little cash, and you get a guaranteed appointment upon re-opening!

5. Offer a listening ear

Sometimes we just need somebody to sit and listen to us during these uncertain times. Offer a friendly voice at the end of the phone or some lovely words of encouragement via text. Spread a little kindness and maybe even make a few new friends in the process. Although this doesn’t help a business to remain open, it can help to maintain positivity, drive and a feeling of being supported and cared about – and that counts for a lot.
