Charitable Links - Karen Betts

Over the years, I have become firm friends with fantastic people doing positive charity work that really makes a difference to people’s lives.

As a BUPA-registered medical tattooist, I work closely with the Katie Piper Foundation, Caroline’s Campaign, Breast Cancer Haven and Breast Friends.

The Alex Lewis Trust

In 2013 Alex Lewis contracted the Strep A infection. It ravaged his body and face, leaving doctors no choice but to amputate his limbs and cut away the gangrenous parts of his lips. As part of his rehabilitation, Alex’s amazing plastic surgeon Alexandra Crick used cutting-edge surgery to rebuild his face, creating new lips for him using skin grafts from his shoulder. I undertook a pigment alignment and 3D lip simulation treatment, and I’m providing Alex with free permanent cosmetics procedures for life.

The Katie Piper Foundation

While recovering from serious acid-attack burns, TV presenter Katie Piper founded a charity to help others with burns, scars and facial disfigurement.

During Katie’s long road to recovery, I stepped in to expertly recreate her lips, brows and eye definition. Now, I regularly provide medical tattooing treatments to other burn survivors on behalf of Katie’s charity in four clinics countrywide.

Caroline’s Campaign

Cancer survivor, campaigner and previous ‘London Personality of The Year’ Caroline Monk has a charity which aims to make women going through cancer treatment look and feel beautiful by holding pamper days across the UK.

My beauty team and I go along to these events to offer Caroline’s guests treatments from across my portfolio of beauty brands – from eyelashes to permanent makeup.

Breast Friends

A self-help group based in the West Midlands, Breast Friends is run by unpaid volunteers, all of whom have been diagnosed with breast cancer and have undergone surgery.

The charity offers friendship, support and practical help, including bi-monthly workshops with myself, introducing newcomers to the concept of medical tattooing and gives them a makeup session and a goody bag of products to take home.

The Haven

The Haven in Leeds provides a wide range of free services for women with breast cancer. It specialises in nutrition, exercise, emotional support and complementary therapies.

I help women who attend The Haven to feel feminine again by funding a monthly tattoo clinic in which me, or one of my highly trained technicians, delivers free treatments to restore the areola area and eyebrows.
